Broncs and Honky Tonks Spring Rodeo Wraps Up in Medicine Hat

April 13, 2026 - Lucas Macza provided some of the drama on the final day of the 2026 edition of the Broncs and Honky Tonks spring rodeo as the Saskatchewan hand put together a winning 83 point winning ride on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo’s 580 Hoglund’s Oak Garden. The win for the five-time CFR qualifier on the nine year-old, sorrel gelding was worth $1518 and solidified his hold on second place in the early season bronc riding standings. A couple of young talents, Hayle Lueders and Hunter Sippola, split 2nd and 3rd just a half point behind Macza with both men pocketing $1125.

Charlie King, veteran steer wrestler from Virden, Manitoba, made the long journey from the Keystone province a profitable one as his 4.3 second sun topped the Medicine Hat field and earned King a tidy $2816.

The biggest money winner of the rodeo was reigning Canadian Champion barrel racer, Jayden Wilson, whose 12.57 second run was the fastest of the weekend and garnered a sizable $3139 for the 2025 titleist as she edged Sydney Branden (12.66 seconds, $2511) who hung on for second spot.

And Stettler’s Beau Cooper took home top money in the tie-down roping with a solid 9.1 second time and a $2664 reward. The CFR/NFR qualifier is also in the driver’s seat at San Angelo as the Texas event heads into its final week—Cooper currently leads the average with his three head total of 26.2 seconds.

Other winners at Medicine Hat were Cruz McNulty in the bareback riding (78.5 points, $1232): team ropers Ty Vaile and Tyce Mcleod (4.7 seconds, $2324 each), two time Canadian Bull Riding Champion, Edgar Durazo who was outstanding (87.5 points on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo’s 877 Down With The Devil, $1537) and defending Canadian Champion steer rider, Ryder Topolinski (77 points, $535).

Next up as the CPRA schedule moves toward high gear for the 2026 season are a couple more Maple Leaf Circuit stops—the Taber Spring Classic April 24-25 and the Kananaskis Pro Rodeo in Coleman, Alberta April 24-26.
