Canadian Stock Have a Big-Time NFR Round One
The best of the Canadian athletes at night number one of the 2025 National Finals Rodeo all had four legs.
And best of all was the Wayne Vold Rodeo bronc Renegade, a saddle bronc horse raised on the Eckville, Alberta Wyzykoski ranch, that carried Stetson Wright to a highlight reel 90 point score for a whopping $36,668. Not far back, Kade Bruno teamed up with another Canadian horse, Big Stone Rodeo’s Gone Fishing for a $21,8982 third place cheque.
In the bareback riding, Legend Rodeo’s Ramblin Man combined with Victor, Idaho cowboy Cooper Cooke for an outstanding 88.5 to win the round.
Tie-down roping saw not one but two Canadian-owned horses helping the men aboard capture some of the Las Vegas cash. Logan Bird’s four-legged superstar, Peso, continued his amazing Thomas and Mack Arena magic as he combined with Texan, Joel Harris, for a second place $28,980 payday while the California talent, Brushton Minton, riding Tyler Popescul’s Lincoln, took home a fifth-place stipend of $9463.
Provost, Alberta steer wrestler, Scott Guenthner, followed up his record shattering Canadian Championship performance, getting his sixth NFR appearance off to a solid start with a fifth place 4.7 second run good for $9463.
Of the four Canadian bronc riders in the field, only four-time world champion, Zeke Thurston, was able to pad his bank account as he rode Frontier Rodeo’s Frontier Medicine to 87 points and a split of sixth place for $2957.
