New to Reading a Day Sheet?
Understanding the Basics
A Day Sheet is essentially the competition schedule.
Each listing includes:
Draw Position – The order competitors perform
Contestant – Athlete name
Stock Number – The assigned horse, bull, steer, or calf
Round – The performance or competition round
How Events Are Judged
Timed Events
The fastest time wins.
Includes:
Steer Wrestling
Team Roping
Tie-Down Roping
Barrel Racing
Breakaway Roping
Common penalties:
Broken Barrier = +10 seconds
Missed Calf/Steer/Barrel = No Time (NT)
Roughstock Events
The highest score wins.
Includes:
Bareback Riding
Saddle Bronc Riding
Bull Riding
Judges score both:
Rider (1-50 points)
Animal (1-50 points)
Combined score = Total out of 100 points.
The rider must remain aboard for 8 seconds to receive a score.
Common Rodeo Abbreviations
NT = No Time
The contestant did not complete the event according to the rules.
NS = No Score
The contestant did not receive a qualifying score.
BO = Bucked Off
The rider did not remain on the animal for the required eight seconds.
SCR = Scratch
The contestant has withdrawn from competition.
DR = Doctor Release
The contestant has been medically excused from competing.
RR = Re-Ride
The contestant has been awarded another opportunity to compete.
BB = Broken Barrier
The contestant left the timed event box too early and received a penalty.
Go-Round vs Average
At the Canadian Finals Rodeo, competitors compete over multiple rounds.
Go-Round Winner
The best score or fastest time in a single performance.
Average Winner
The best cumulative score or time across all performances.
This means a competitor can win a round, win the average, or both.
